Water and power are usually planned by different agencies, funded from different budgets and built by different contractors. In an established city that works well enough. In a remote community, on an island, or on a new development site, it is one of the most common reasons a project underdelivers: the water plant is finished and waiting for power, or the power arrives and there is nothing yet to run.

The two are one system. Treating water takes energy, and a large part of the cost of desalinated water is the electricity used to make it. Planning them together is cheaper and more reliable than planning them apart.

Two ways to make water

Mystic Enterprises, a technology partner Oklahoma Ventures works with, offers two water technologies alongside its energy products.

Mystic describes these systems as intended for municipalities, industrial facilities, island communities and remote developments.

Why bundling changes the economics

Water treatment is a steady, predictable load, which makes it a good match for solar generation with battery storage. Water itself can also be stored. A plant can produce more during the hours when solar output is high and draw from tanks overnight, which reduces the amount of battery capacity the system needs.

Mystic pairs its water systems with its containerized Energy in a Box™ storage and solar units as a bundled water and power offering. For the owner, the benefit is fewer interfaces: one system designed to work together, not two that have to be made to.

Water and power as one system: solar, battery storage, water plant with two water sources, storage tank, community. Make water by day, draw from tanks at night.

Where it fits

Where Oklahoma Ventures fits

Equipment does not make a utility. A working water and power project needs a confirmed demand figure, a site, permits for intake and discharge, an agreement on who owns and operates the system, a tariff or payment structure the sponsor can sustain, and contractors for the civil works that tie it all together.

Oklahoma Ventures takes that on as developer and integrator. We work with the government or owner to define the need and confirm the sponsor, structure the project and its path to financing, and assemble and manage the delivery team. Mystic provides the water and energy systems and the product expertise. We remain accountable for how the parts come together.

Plan them as one

If you are responsible for a community or a development where water and power are both constraints, the most useful first step is to look at them on one page: how much water, how much power, at what hours, and what is on site today. That is a conversation we are glad to have.
